The Probert family originates from the village of Llanyblodwel which is in the county of Shropshire just a couple of miles from the border between England and Wales. Robert Probert, my great-great-great grandfather moved from here in the early 1800's to the "Black Country", which is the industrialised area of the West Midlands around Wolverhampton and West Bromwich. This is a region which is famous for heavy industry, coal mining and metal work and its name originates from its coal mining history.

My Mother's maiden name was Ellen Doreen Probert (now Davis) and she was born in Bilston, which is near Wolverhampton. Her father was William Probert (1893 - ?) and her mother's maiden name was Letitia Rolfe (1900-1981).

The Davis and Probert families came together during the Second World War when Ellen Doreen Probert, like many young women of the time, moved to the rural area around Tenbury Wells as part of the "Women's Land Army".
